‘Dust rain’ hits the UK

Yesterday it was reported that a red dust was falling from the sky onto cars in the UK.

Seen mostly in London and South East England, the tiny particles are believed to have been from the Sahara Desert. They travelled over to Europe due to strong gusts of wind. The dust is brought down from the troposphere part of the atmosphere by rain drops. After the rain dries out, the sand remains on the surface of cars and buildings.

The dust is harmless apart making your car look a little muddy. More dust rain is expected in the next few days.
