Can anything escape from a black hole?

Consider escaping Earth’s gravity: you’d need an escape velocity of 25,000 mph (40,234 km/h), while on the moon you’d need a velocity of 5,300 mph (8,530 km/h). This is due to the size of the respective body and how much gravity it exerts. To escape a black hole’s ‘surface’, your escape velocity must be faster than the speed of light. As nothing with mass can surpass the speed of light, we can assume that this is impossible.

However, there is some hope. You will only experience this astronomical pull when you are within the boundary of the black hole, known as the ‘event horizon’.
