Video: The robot that can simulate medical symptoms

Simon is a completely wireless robot who can behave and react in the same way a sick patient would. He can bleed, cry, speak, and even have a fit – all of which has been helping medical students lucky enough to have access to the doll. Until recently Simon had only been used for medical training, but now pharmacy students at the University of Bath have been enjoying the benefit of Simon’s presence. The robo-patient acts as a virtual pin cushion so the students can safely administer drugs and see the effects instantly – without putting any real patients’ lives at risk (no offence to any students at Bath). The Sim Man can display a range of symptoms depending on the condition with which he has been programmed so students can discover a variety of scenarios and explore the best way to cure them. Find out how Simon’s being put to good use in this video.
