The end of one-day smartphone batteries?

With the ever-increasing thirst for power and the use of mobile phones as an all-in-one phone, laptop and e-reader, battery life has been going through the floor, with many phones needing nightly charges.

So Polish firm Onyx has stepped up to create a smartphone that can last two weeks on a single charge. Admittedly the screen is low power and black and white, but if you are prepared to put up with that, it could spell the end for scrabbling around for a power source everywhere you go.

The phone, which was revealed at CEBIT, the huge IT event currently being held in Hannover, Germany, will go on sale later this year and will run a modified version of Android.

Along with phones that can use solar power to charge through their cases or screen protectors, the future of smartphones could be very bright indeed.
