Inside the Nexus Q

1. Ambient lighting
Adding a sense of theatre to the proceedings are 32 RGB LED lights controlled by two drivers replete with internal oscillators.

2. Heart of the Q
A tiny board houses 16GB of flash memory, a USB 2.0 to Ethernet controller and 1GB of DRAM, among other things.

3. Wi-Fi access
The Q has a Wi-Fi antenna, but you can’t browse the web – it’s used for connecting to Google’s cloud-based apps service.

4. Volume control
A series of steel ball-bearings enable the user to twist the top of the device to adjust volume in an innovative way.

5. NFC controller
One of the core components, this contactless tech allows the Q to communicate with an NFC-compatible device (such as the Nexus 7).
