World 1st

The familiar Robonaut 2, built by NASA, will become the first human-like robot to be sent into space. It should arrive on the ISS in early 2011 following a delay to its scheduled November launch.

800 trillion

Astronomers discovered a super galaxy 7 billion years from Earth which contains about 800 trillion suns and hundreds of galaxies. By comparison, our galaxy contains 100 million stars.


The number of trees that could be planted per day using old military planes, an idea developed by US manufacturer Lockheed Martin Aerospace.

10,000 years

Observations made by the Hubble Space Telescope calculated the movement of stars in the globular cluster Omega Centauri over the next 10,000 years.
