The Demotix.com and Digital Photographer magazine World Cup 2010 Competition

How It Works’ sister magazine Digital Photographer is running a great competition and we thought we’d share it with our readers too. If you have a passion for football or a talent for photography – or better still are gifted at both – this is the competition for you…

DP Demotix competition

Demotix is proud to announce a phenomenal collaboration with the UK’s best photography magazine, Digital Photographer. This month’s competition from Demotix has a World Cup theme and to celebrate the biggest carnival of football, the winner will win a year’s free subscription to Digital Photographer magazine.

Football-related stories are top of the agenda, so we’re talking about photo-stories and videos of the colourful fans, the craziest headwear, wackiest costumes or where fans will watch the game.

Our clients will also be looking for a number of football-inspired photo essays such as the backgrounds of famous footballers; a story on their local club, their schools, people who knew them before they were famous or pictures of fans with their football heroes and villains.

Get your World Cup-themed stories in today! That’s photos and videos!

HOW TO ENTER

Just head to www.demotix.com and upload your photos/videos and remember to tag them as FIFA 2010. Every tagged portrait photo uploaded in June will be considered for the monthly prizes.

The closing date is 30 June 2010 so start snapping now to get your entries in.

JUNE’S JUDGE

This month’s competition will be judged by Sports Illustrated photo-editor Jim Colton. He has been in the photography industry for over 38 years – 12 of them for the world famous Sports Illustrated magazine. The US-based magazine has over 3 million subscribers and boasts 23 million readers a week.

THE PRIZES

First Place: the winner of June’s World Cup 2010 competition will win a free year’s subscription to Digital Photographer magazine, sent direct to your door.

Digital Photographer is a monthly magazine for enthusiasts and pros. Packed with professional advice, expert shooting guides and all the latest kit reviews, this is your all-in-one guide to improving your photography skills. Each issue also comes with a free CD, which includes Photoshop and Lightroom tutorials, plus lots of free resources for photographers. Grab your copy today at http://www.imagineshop.co.uk

Second Place: the opportunity to turn your photojournalism into a beautiful coffee-table book. Blurb, custom book publishers for the masses, will allow the winner to produce and customise their own bookstore-quality book or books, up to the value of £50.

Teresa Pereira, senior director at Blurb UK, said: “In an age of citizen journalism and new media, Demotix is streamlining content to help tell stories that are too often overlooked, but affect all of us. Flipping the news-gathering process on its head, Demotix is giving everyone a voice and platform on which to be heard. Providing that open platform is at the heart of Blurb’s foundation and we hope that through books, these stories can continue to live on.”

Runners up will also be able to have their work printed – this time by Moo, the stunning card printers.

Third Place: will receive 60 postcards of their best work, beautifully printed onto glossy stock.

All winners will be featured on the Demotix blog and promoted intensively to photo editors and creatives worldwide.
