Cooking appliances are a major cause of accidental fires, causing more serious injuries and deaths than any other household devices.
In the UK the resulted in 33 fatalities and 4,100 injuries in 2011 and 2012. Roughly half were caused by stoves, while chip pans were the second most likely item to spark a fire in the kitchen.
